Frank Baum, author of the Oz books, died, his oldest son, Frank, was in Europe. Frank wanted to take over writing the Oz books but found that the publishers, Reilly and Lee, had hired Ruth P. Thompson to continue with new stories. Frank submitted a story he wrote, Rosine and the Laughing Dragon, but Reilly and Lee refused to publish it. Frank then gave the story to Whitman who published it as The Laughing Dragon of Oz. A sequel BLB was written and titled The Enchanted Princess of Oz, but Reilly and Lee sued Whitman and Baum's son. A settlement was realized with an agreement not to reprint the Laughing Dragon BLB or any sequel. Thus there are very few copies of this popular title available.
